Bronze

Asoro was the sword bearer to Oba (King) Ovonramwen between 1888 and 1897 when the Benin kingdom fell to the British. He defended the Oba with extraordinary courage, physical strength and valor. Since the gun could not kill him, he was skinned and buried alive . During the centenary commemo-ration of the Britiish invasion of 1897 in 1997, Asoro was posthumously promoted to the grade of general of the Benin army by his royal majesty Oba Erediauwa.
