STORY:
These boabs stand just outside Derby in Western Australia. (The patch of red dirt was transported in by local authorities for a Qantas promotional shoot that I was involved with!) Aboriginal legend says that when the earth was young, the boab was one of the most beautiful trees created, adorned all year round with wonderful foliage. After a while the tree began to boast of its beauty to the other trees. The maker of all things heard the boab singing its own praises and decided to punish it. For six months he allowed the tree its beauty, but for the other six months the boab was turned upside down to expose the roots. Now it boasts no more.
