New Day , 2021
23.6 x 47 in (h x w)
Acrylic and Oil on Canvas

"With the palette I present collective ongoing energies leading the way to a new day. Blue and red colors represent vision, life, courage, determination, and religious fervor. Symbols, Myths, and Stories inspired this new day. God Mardukh of the Babylonian Myth of Creation, Enuma Elish, is shown in the art work as he uses his vision to direct himself to the new beginning after his victory over chaos. Noah and the Biblical flood story is symbolized by the seven surviving oarsmen in the painting, the seven days and nights in the flood, and the one hundred and twenty years that it took him to build the boat. The depiction of raging water from Assyrian reliefs represents ongoing life, constantly revolving. The spiral shapes represent renewed energy regardless of time and place."
Agnes had interest in drawing and painting since childhood. She studied oil painting, color techniques, layering and tone analysis through observation from Assyrian Iraqi artist Adwar Alrsam and Iraqi art teacher Tariq Mekhail. Agnes later worked in a gallery in Baghdad where she was given the creative freedom to play with paint and sell her work after graduating from the Institute of Technology, Baghdad. In New Zealand, she attended life drawing workshops and has experimented with new artistic techniques. Her practice spans through different abstract art technique and styles.
