The practice of placing belongings of a loved one in their coffins dates back centuries. They felt deeply connected to these items as they expressed their personalities. Egyptians would put everyday objects that they thought were necessary after death such as bowls, combs, and food. Mexicans offer toys for dead children and gifts of tequila or foods for adult spirits. Harry Houdini, an American magician, was buried with letters from his mother in 1926.
Consider this scenario today: What would you put in the coffin? What is one thing that is most important to you?
Smartphones were designed to make our lives easier and more convenient. Lately, we have become so dependent on them that they have become an extension of our existence. The virtual world created by these devices has become more important than the real world. The average time a person spends on social media is 2.45 hours a day which translates to 37 days a year! To a certain extent, social media and online connections have replaced physical relationships.
How far are we willing to live through our phones?
