Depicting American actress Marilyn Monroe as its subject, Marilyn Diptych (1962) is one of the renowned artworks by American artist Andy Warhol. The artwork is one of the collections in Tate Modern. Using a silkscreen technique, the painting consists of two panels, with each panel printed with 25 images using a 5x5 alignment. The left panel is rendered in color, while the right panel is black and white. Inspired by the publicity photo of Marilyn Monroe featured in the film Niagara (1953), the work was completed within a few weeks after the actress died in August 1962. The contrast between the left and right panels evokes the life and death of Marilyn Monroe. The diptych also represents multiple dimensions of the career and fate of the legendary Monroe.
