這幅作品是屬於達利代表作的其中之一，也是屬於超現實主義的代表作。畫面展現的是一片空曠的海灘上躺著一隻怪物，還有四個不同型態的鐘錶。
作品中的鐘錶均表達不同的意思，例如在枯樹上可以代表著「近日所逝去的時間」。這幅作品展現出時間的影響力，當生命中有限的時間逝去時，我們就像鐘錶的形態般不斷融化，最後完全消失。
This is one of the representative works of Salvador Dali characterising the style of Surrealist painting. The picture depicts a desolate beach and an unknown creature is lying on it. Besides, there are four clocks rendered in different forms.
Each of the clocks carries a different symbolic meaning. For example, the clock hung on the branch of the withered tree could be read as a symbol of the recent passage of time. Rendered in a surrealist expression, the painting visualizes how our lives are conditioned by time, and every creature on earth shares a limited sense of time. Like the melting clocks, the vitality of our lives gradually dries up and eventually vanishes as time passes by.
