The Future of Work participant arrived in Vancouver, Canada from Dubai over 7 years ago. They are a textile designer with an intensive portfolio of work experience in reviving traditional methods of developing textiles and working with artisans in India. However, they struggled in Canada to apply their skills in a meaningful way, instead taking on marketing & merchandising roles for which they did not feel well-suited. This work also stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Future of Work Coaching:
The Future of Work Coach helped the participant to seek out opportunity in the current situation and to find creative career paths which were poised for growth. After discussing opportunities in product sourcing and graphic design, they became excited about pursuing opportunities in graphics design. They continued their job search in product/textile design even while applying for WorkBC funding for training and waiting for their college term to start. This led to an interview for the junior designer role in the textile industry. The participant was excited to be personally interviewed by the CEO!

Future of Work Outcome:
The Future of Work participant was hired in “Customer Service Relations, Inside Sales Support”. The role in both interesting and challenging, and requires communication to ensure appropriate customer support. The participant loves their new job, where they work with the design, marketing & production team. Supported by great people, they feel confident, fulfilled and committed.
The Future of Work participant indicates “It’s important to pivot and look for hidden jobs! Don’t give up on your passion, give it a chance, keep searching, go for interviews. There will be many NO’s but you will always learn something, and when you see a little ray of light, just follow… You never know where that will lead you - it opened a whole new path for me. I pivoted from making textile art in clothing to textile sewn products for industrial purposes, but in sales. I remember that my coach once mentioned that job security is better on the revenue side of the business. The CSR role fulfilled that and was even a better fit for me than that of a graphics designer.

Situation
Le participant de L'avenir du Travai est arrivé à Vancouver, au Canada, de Dubaï, il y a plus de 7 ans. Il s'agit d'un concepteur de textiles ayant une expérience professionnelle intensive dans la relance des méthodes traditionnelles de développement de textiles et dans la collaboration avec des artisans en Inde. Cependant, ils ont eu du mal à appliquer leurs compétences de manière significative au Canada, préférant assumer des rôles de marketing et de fournisseurs pour lesquels ils ne se sentaient pas bien adaptés. Ce travail s'est également arrêté pendant la pandémie de la COVID-19.
Coaching sur L'avenir du travail:
Le coach L'avenir du Travail a aidé le participant à chercher des opportunités dans le context actuel et à trouver des parcours professionnels créatifs et dans un secteur croissant. Après avoir discuté de toutes les possibilités dans le domaine de l'approvisionnement en produits et de la conception graphique, ils se sont intéressé dans la conception graphique. L’individu a poursuivi sa recherche d'emploi dans le domaine de la conception de produits/textiles, tout en faisant une demande de financement de formation auprès de WorkBC et en attendant le début de son semestre universitaire. Cela a mené à un entretien pour un poste de concepteur junior dans l'industrie du textile. L’individu était ravi d'être interviewé personnellement par le PDG !

Résultat de L'avenir du Travail
Le participant au programme L'avenir du Travail a été embauché en tant que "Customer Service Relations, Inside Sales Support". Le rôle est à la fois intéressant et stimulant, et nécessite une bonne communication pour assurer un soutien approprié aux clients. Le participant aime son nouvel emploi, où il travaille avec l'équipe de conception, de marketing et de production. Soutenu par des personnes formidables, il se sent confiant, épanoui et engagé.
Le participant au programme L'avenir du Travail indique : "Il est important de pivoter et de chercher des emplois cachés ! N'abandonnez pas votre passion, donnez-lui une chance, continuez à chercher, participez à des entretiens. Il y aura beaucoup de NON, mais vous apprendrez toujours quelque chose, et quand vous verrez un petit rayon de lumière, suivez-le... Vous ne savez jamais où cela vous mènera - cela m'a ouvert une toute nouvelle voie. Je suis passé de l'art du textile à l'habillement et des produits textiles cousus à des produits industriels, mais dans la vente. Je me souviens que mon coach avait mentionné un jour que la sécurité de l'emploi était meilleure du côté des revenus de l'entreprise. Le rôle de RSE répondait à cela et me convenait même mieux que celui de graphiste.
