Ali Shair Ahmadi is a singer and entertainer living in Montreal, Quebec. He immigrated to Canada from Afghanistan at a young age, settling in Sherbrooke, Quebec with his family. He hopes that through his music, art, and passion, he can light a small candle of joy and comfort. Ali Shair Ahmadi is accompanied by tabla player Massud Muhiby also from Quebec.
“Limitless Medley” was performed by Ali Shair and Massud at the 2018 Canada National Jubilee Arts Festival in Toronto, Ontario.

Singing has been part of our cultural heritage from the beginning. However, it bloomed in the 60s and 70s before the war in Afghanistan, representing a time of peace and tranquillity. This medley of songs is from that time.
The first song is a traditional Afghan love song that has a specific rhythm. It is entitled: “Shonidam as inja safar mekoni” (I heard you were far from here ...). It is sung with particular techniques and tempo, mainly using the throat. This nostalgic piece talks about someone leaving their country to settle in a new land and reflecting on the experience of a completely new environment with unknown people who speak a different language. This person must integrate in order to learn all that is needed and adapt to the new culture in order to lead a full life in this new country. However, the person notices that they have no difficulty learning new music. The song prepares the audience for a trip to this new culture and country.
The next song is entitled “Deegar ashkam marez” (Do not make me cry) and was originally composed by Ahmad Zahir, a pop musician in Afghanistan from the 1960s - 1970s. It is Ahmad Zahir’s nostalgic love song for his country of origin, but one that also expresses his deep affection for his newly adopted nation. The piece is bittersweet, expressing the joy he derives from the land of new discovery while at the same time recounting his sadness at having to leave everything that he once called home.

Il espère allumer une petite bougie de joie et de réconfort à travers sa musique, son art et sa passion. Ali Shair Ahmadi est accompagné par le joueur de tabla Massud Muhiby, également originaire du Québec.

Le chant fait partie de notre patrimoine culturel depuis toujours. Cependant, il s'est épanoui dans les années 60 et 70, avant la guerre en Afghanistan, représentant une période de paix et de tranquillité. Ce mélange de chansons est d’ailleurs issu de cette époque.
La première chanson est une chanson traditionnelle afghane d'amour et a un rythme spécifique. Elle s'intitule : "Shonidam as inja safar mekoni" (J'ai entendu dire que tu étais loin d'ici...). Elle est chantée avec des techniques et un tempo particuliers, en utilisant principalement la gorge. Ce extrait nostalgique parle d'un individu qui quitte son pays pour s'installer dans une nouvelle terre et qui réfléchit à l'expérience d'un environnement complètement nouveau avec des personnes inconnues qui parlent une autre langue. Cet individu doit s'intégrer afin d'apprendre tout ce qui est nécessaire et s'adapter à la nouvelle culture afin de mener une vie pleine dans ce nouveau pays. Cependant, l’individu remarque qu'il n'a aucune difficulté à apprendre une nouvelle musique. Cette chanson prépare le public à un voyage dans cette nouvelle culture et ce nouveau pays.
