SUBMITTER INFORMATION
“New Beginnings” (2022) is a painting by Zohal Mohibi, a participant of FRI in Edmonton. Alberta. Zohal immigrated to Canada in 2016 from Afghanistan and has found sketching and painting a great source of enjoyment, expression and inspiration that she is able to turn to even during busy times of work and school. She was encouraged to continue her artistic practice by a local artist that she met at a community art exhibition. Art was a talent her high-school teachers encouraged her to pursue.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
The painting was completed on Navroz (festival marking the beginning of new year and first day of spring) and it was the artist’s vision that the piece represents her new life’s journey in Canada. Navroz represents a new year and new beginnings and is a time to set new goals for the future. The painting symbolizes a beautiful vision, inspiration and hope for days ahead. The trees represent strong roots that Zohal’s family is establishing in Canada. The ocean is an example of purity, and the sun illustrates light filling her life with hope. During the process of making the artwork, Zohal imagined a new chapter in her life filled with joy, happiness, laughter and courage to overcome all the challenges that life brings. Her intent is not to dwell in the past but to dream of the future and focus one’s energy on every new step, large and small, with courage.

" Nouveaux départs" (2022) est une peinture de Zohal Mohibi, un participant du FRI à Edmonton, en Alberta. Zohal a immigré au Canada de l'Afghanistan en 2016 et a trouvé une grande source de plaisir, d'expression et d'inspiration en faisant du dessin et de la peinture et vers lesquels elle peut se tourner même pendant les périodes occupées au travail et à l'école. Elle a été encouragée à poursuivre sa pratique artistique par un artiste local qu'elle a rencontré lors d'une exposition d'art communautaire. L'art était un talent que ses professeurs de l’école secondaire l'ont également encouragée à poursuivre.
RENSEIGNEMENTS SUR LA SOUMISSION
La peinture a été achevée le jour de Navroz (festival marquant le début de la nouvelle année et le premier jour du printemps) et l'artiste souhaitait que l'œuvre représente le voyage de sa nouvelle vie au Canada. Navroz représente une nouvelle année et de nouveaux départs. C'est aussi le moment de se fixer de nouveaux objectifs pour l'avenir. La peinture symbolise une belle vision : l'inspiration et l'espoir pour les jours à venir. Les arbres représentent les racines solides que la famille de Zohal est en train d'établir au Canada. L'océan est un exemple de pureté, et le soleil illustre la lumière qui remplit sa vie d'espoir. Durant la création de l'œuvre, Zohal a imaginé un nouveau chapitre de sa vie, rempli de joie, de bonheur, de rires et de courage pour surmonter tous les défis de la vie. Son intention n'est pas de s'attarder sur le passé mais de rêver à l'avenir et de concentrer son énergie sur chaque nouveau pas, qu’il soit petit ou grand, avec courage.
