Over the past two years I have found myself taking lots of photos of laneways and underpasses, ostensibly in search of the street art adorning their walls. Initially, I found these restricted places claustrophobic and I entered them reluctantly. But as time passed I became enthralled by their unique beauty and felt safe and comforted by the closeness of their walls. I was always conscious of the light at the end of these spaces. It was enticing, but I was comfortable where I was. I lingered on, in two minds about stepping out into that bigger, uncertain, shocking place.
