ARTIST BIO

With multi-country artistic training from Canada, England, East Africa and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Anisha draws upon a variety of techniques to express powerful emotions through her art. She uses acrylics, watercolors, and pastels to create still life, portrait, and landscape paintings. While she is an accomplished portrait artist, abstract art is her favourite style, as the power of color becomes a transcendental force that takes her to a higher realm of expression. For Anisha, art serves as a meditative practice, and painting is the dialogue in which she can express herself creatively, and freely. Anisha’s recent works have been displayed at various exhibitions across Vancouver.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

Acrylic on canvas; 20 inches x 16 inches

Women play an indispensable role instilling “values and ideals” into their children and developing their foundational structure. That structure is the root in which their children will go on to form their identity, ultimately realizing their “self”, and continue to share this with the world. This art piece depicts the tradition for centuries where women pass on invaluable knowledge to one another and on to their children. This piece captures a powerful moment in time shared between two women and their children.

The artist uses expressive abstraction in this piece, with splashes and drips employed purposefully. The colours flow into each other sequentially to symbolize the flow of wisdom passed from generation to generation. Finally, the abstract axis of symmetry, in both composition and colour, provides a sense of balance to draw attention to the gathering and hold the intimacy of the moment of awakening that is being experienced. The artist uses the richness of this imagery to bring to life and share her inner light.
