ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

Acrylic on canvas; 72” x 60” x 1”

Doorways are passages to other worlds. This specific door emanates magnificence and power. Being slightly ajar, the entrance entices a passer-by to look further into what they may find behind. In this case, the three doorways are inspired by three powerful names in Arabic calligraphy: Allah, Muhammad and Ali. Prophet Muhammad explains Hazrat Ali's role as a spiritual guide, quoting: "I am the city of knowledge and Ali is it's gate. Whoever desires knowledge should enter the city by that gate."

The energy emanated by this specific door, amongst other doors that serve as a glimpse into history, have always resonated with the artist. The artist connects her piece to the theme of “power and authority” as the authoritative words of Allah, Prophet Mohammad and Hazarat Ali inspired her to integrate their power into this painting - both by symbolism and significance.

As a Muslim artist with a profound connection and love of history, each person that views this piece will see the essence of Salma. Her values and ideals are deeply intertwined into each brushstroke, recreating a glimpse into a world that others can reflect on.
