ARTIST BIO

Dilshad Kanji is an emerging Canadian visual artist, born and raised in Pakistan. She is currently enrolled in the Drawing and Painting Program at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada. Her imagination circles around bridging art, science and spirituality together inspired by ancestral wisdom, Sufis, and scientific research that comments on the reality of human intellect and its connection with other beings. Ultimately, how to elevate oneself through sharing love and care with, and for each other. Dilshad presents this connection between the external and inner realms in her paintings by creating a contrast between various elements of art and composition, using a combination of soft and hard mediums and utilizing natural ingredients such as oil, wood, rocks and sand.

The artist believes that our bodies are miracles of change! The structures of the cells, energy of the quantum realms, sacred geometry, our brain, design of our human biology, and especially the role of our heart, can lead to massive transformation in our lives. We have the power to take back control over our genetic blueprint, the way our bodies respond to the environment, and achieve an inner evolution through biological change. With her artwork, she intends to create and inspire self-awareness in the world.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

Oil on birchwood panel, 44 inches (round)

In this artwork, the artist builds the connection between “faith and spirituality” and “identity and self”, and how one communes with the Divine through the understanding of one’s body, intellect and connection with the universe. Viewers may ponder on: What is our reality? How do we transcend our current reality through conscious evolution? How was the universe created? How does the universe work from the subatomic to the cosmological? How are we all connected?

This piece emphasizes heart-brain coherence as our heart is a powerful, creative center. When our heart experiences elevated emotion (i.e feelings of gratitude, appreciation of blessings, love for life), regardless of our actual emotional condition, this state creates an ambient magnetic field around our body. This frequency carries information that puts us in a perfect state to "create". Experiencing positive emotional states creates an ordered and stable pattern of the heart’s input to the brain, facilitating intellectual function and emotional stability. Learning to sustain positive emotions not only benefits the entire body, but also profoundly affects how we perceive, think, feel, and perform.

Using symmetrical composition, she creates unity between warm and cool hues, textured and soft arabesque patterns, expressive and implied movements, that overall creates an infinite rhythm symbolizing the journey into multiple dimensions. In this piece, she used oil, saw dust, sand, rocks, and crystals to emphasize the connection between humans and the universe coming together as one.
