STORY:
Just the name Sri Lanka conjures up images of an exotic, mysterious destination, renowned for its tea plantations and for its gems. This tiny island nation certainly lives up to its exotic reputation. We were staying in an amazing hotel built into the mountainside in Kandalama. Late in the afternoon we went down to the shores of Kandalama Reservoir, where we had arranged to meet one of the local elephant handlers. His elephant, Monica, was very happy to go into the water and she delighted us by spraying water all over herself. While getting this shot, we had to be careful she didn’t spray water directly at us. As the sun was setting, Monica seemed to have a big smile on her face as she blasted out another shower of water droplets. It was obvious she was having a happy day.
