Sumi ink, pastels, colored pencils, gouache, watercolor, KTS 23 glass gold leaf

Artist statement: I am a professional calligrapher who uses words, images, and design to convey meaning. Some of my abstract work contains words that may be illegible but are instrumental to my creative process of expression. The result, I hope, invites the viewer to become engaged. I like to use photo transfers, altered and enhanced with colored pencils. Some of my commissions are books with images and names, some others involve quotes and expressions for gifts or to commemorate important events.
Artists books are meant to be personal as they are held close and handled privately by one person. One book I made as an expression of sorrow on the suicide death of a family member is deeply moving with words and painted feelings. Another includes poems and religious words on the celebration of life.

Artist description: Hildegard of Bingen, the “Sybil of the Rhine” was a 12th century visionary head of a convent in Germany whose music, poetry, and writings are overwhelmingly alive with her faith. She found joy and movement in god’s creation.
