Materialism is “the attitude of someone who attaches a lot of importance to money and wants to possess a lot of material things”. Working hard and trying to accumulate wealth and improve your lifestyle is honorable, yet the desire to collect money and things needs to be kept in balance. Materialistic decisions and values can lead to diminishing happiness and wellbeing. My artwork communicates this idea, by depicting non-materialistic bride next to a materialistic groom. The conflict between the clean appearance of digital photography against the grungy feel, traditionally associated with spray paint and stenciling, helps to accentuate the conflicting moral decisions and emotions of the newly married couple.
