My artwork is based around the theme and connotations of the theoretical definition of perception; the way in which art (mine, specifically) influences the viewer. The theory establishes the paradigm that sensory information processing in human cognition, such as perception, recognition, memory, and comprehension, are organized and shaped by our previous experience, expectations, as well as meaningful context. It was theorised that the artworks would evoke a response from the observer similar to ‘double-checking’ both literally and mentally, as the stylistic principles and presentation employed were intended to make the artwork look not quite right; resulting in the aforementioned reaffirmation that what they were seeing in front of them was indeed as it seemed.
