In the artist's own words:"Born in South Sudan, Jeffah Thabach was separated from his parents at the age of six and forced to move to a refugee camp in Ethiopia. He spent 22 years in various camps. Despite his incredibly difficult situation, he gained an education, married and started a family. Jeffah is now a Project Officer at the Centre for Multicultural Youth in Victoria, Australia, and a father of six. Much of his work involves working against racial profiling and helping those in need. He is wearing a beautiful traditional outfit. This is to show the honour and dignity behind the man - a man forced to live life without freedom as a refugee. And the fence turning into birds signify the freedom that Jeffah was finally able to achieve. His story is one of faith against the odds and a simple desire to create a life where he and his family can feel safe."
