Carson

Carson is a child with a huge personality. His laughter is contagious as he enjoys making others laugh, often trying to play jokes on them. His favorite things to do are play outside, pitch baseballs to his older brother, and ride his bike. Carson thoroughly enjoys going to preschool, playing soccer/basketball/baseball with other children, and trying to make his baby sister smile at him.

On the outside, you would never imagine that this handsome young boy was born with a life expectancy of 41 years old. His diagnosis at 1 week old has prompted daily treatments (2–3 a day, lasting 30 minutes each) consisting of a vest breathing system that shakes him vigorously to break up the mucus in his lungs along with taking 20+ pills a day to aid his pancreas in digestion. Carson actively engages in drug trials and research to help shape better outcomes for himself and others. He is our love, our life, and our hero!

Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time.

In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients.
