Naylah

Our daughter is determined, and she has been reaching all milestones at her own pace. She might not crawl at 6 months, like most kids do, take her first steps by her first birthday, say mama or dada and babble, eat a whole meal by mouth, but the most important thing is that she has an amazing team behind her. We are her biggest fans and her source of support. Every new thing she does shows us that she has the willingness to do so. A friend once told me that it takes a village to raise a child. Sure enough, she was right. No way could Naylah have made so much progress without the support of our family, friends, and medical team. She has about twenty different specialists working with her and with us. Naylah came to win, to fight, and we are never giving up.

Trisomy 5
Chromosome 5q duplication is a chromosome abnormality that occurs when there is an extra copy of genetic material on the long arm of chromosome 5. The severity of the condition and the signs and symptoms depend on the size and location of the duplication and which genes are involved. Features that often occur in people with chromosome 5q duplication include developmental delay, intellectual disability, behavioral problems, and distinctive facial features. Chromosome 5q duplication can be de novo or inherited from a parent with a chromosomal rearrangement such as a balanced translocation. Treatment is based on the signs and symptoms present in each person.
