Harsh winter weather with freezing temperatures and heavy rains are set to make things worse for people in northern Syria. Around 2 million people are living in camps and informal sites. The scarcity of fuel and lack of proper means for heating makes life extremely challenging for them. Many people are displaced from their homes and living in temporary shelters without adequate heating or insulation. Due to the increase of fuel prices and despite the health risks, tyres, plastic and old shoes are burned together for warmth. Inhaling these toxic fumes can lead to respiratory illnesses and even death.
