To the south the rugged ranges of Carnavon Gorge, a significant place to the Bidjara, Karingbal, and Kara Kara people of Central Queensland
To the north-east of this water holding pond is the site of the Cullin-la-ringo massacre of 1861.
Of the six settler survivors was Tom Wills - cricketer and founder of Australian rules football.
