"Barnes practice includes works on large drawings and prints of architecture and figures generally within urban settings. In printmaking it is the truly unique nature and element of chance and experiment of monotype that attracts her.

Working on monotypes of boxers, Barnes recreates their power and physical energy�the strength, movement, flow, and rivalry of two gladiatorial competitors. We watch on film, appalled but fascinated by the spectacle, we keep our position and enjoy, perhaps somewhat guiltily, the contest.

Post-graduate Painting Royal Academy Schools 1984-87 and an MA in Printmaking at the Royal College in 1987-89. She has exhibited since 1990 in many group and solo exhibitions including Jerwood Prizes - second prize 2003, Exhibited many times RA Summer exhibition including this year 2023, winning the Hugh Casson Drawing Prize in 2013, TBWDP - Working Drawing Prize 2019.
