"This body of work was born out of Flavias need to record and make sense of the complexity of her experience as a mother: a search for love, freedom and limits in a context thick with unprocessed emotions and overtired minds.
Flavias images question the Mother archetype as an all-giving, perfect being, embracing instead Her longing, desires, and often melancholy. Through the making of images, the artist wants to bring visibility to the biter-sweetness of parenting, while simultaneously acknowledging the magical and transformational potential of that journey.
Flavia chose to work with monotypes in this series because they allow for a very spontaneous handling of the paint before printing - yet there is very little room for corrections afterwards. To make images in that way doesnt only fit in relatively small time frames, but it feels emotional, vulnerable and unforgiving akin to Flavias experience of mothering."
