Woodblock print with embossing
The deep recesses of this woodblock print result from Maki’s process of using cement and plywood plate relief with embossed laminated papers. His printmaking practice developed as part of the post war printmaking revival in Japan, which fostered exploration of such experimental techniques due, in part, to a lack of available conventional printmaking materials.
