Rum on the Run! , 2023

With this piece, the artists aim to discuss the normalisation of alcohol consumption. In order to highlight this point, the artists select a situation such as running, that is normally not connected with alcohol consumption.

The art work’s main objective is to shed light on the blurred boundaries between acceptable alcohol consumption and the overindulgence of the substance.

The questions asked towards the audience are thought-provoking and aim to portray alcohol as a solution, reward or motivation, which can trigger alcohol addiction.
In fact, more than 6 percent of adults in the U.S. have an alcohol use disorder; an additional 623,000 people between the ages of 12 and 17 struggle with alcohol abuse.

The musical track at the end of the video is the song Bemba Colorá by Celia Cruz, released in 1997 in the US; the choice behind this selection is justified not only by the historical friction between the United States and Cuba (country typically “linked to rum”), but also to symbolise the concerning numbers related to alcoholism in the American population.
