Breaking out of the Chains of Trauma
Ceramic

I created the oblong chains linked together with an open lock on one end.  The chain is is cracked and colored a weathered bronze to create the feeling of a long struggle to break free from these negative feelings of depression and pain from repeated traumas that have led to PTSD, Social Anxieties , and Depression. Not to mention the other heath problems that are caused by the body stress response to these issues. Creating with Clay and Art in its many forms has been very therapeutic for me. Ceramic arts has allowed me to enter healing, relaxing and meditative states. Working with clay, whether it be on the wheel or hand building, has allowed me to be more mindful of my breathing. I am aware of where my hands, feet, elbows and back are. Sometimes I just close my eyes, listen to the wheel spin and enjoy how clay feels slipping through my hands. I am grateful for these moments. I feel relaxed, my brain is quiet, I am at peace. During these moments my art captures my feelings, thoughts, and impulses that are held captive in my unconscious mind. I Created this piece with Curtis Yu as a Teacher and mentor. I am very grateful for his kindness, generosity and judgement free environment that has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and into a great community of Potters/Artists.
