Branco Weiss

Branko Gavrin (later Branco Weiss) was just a seven years-old boy when he, his mother, Mira Gavrin Weiss and his brother Davor crossed the Swiss border at Frantelone as a part of large group internees from the Italian town Aprica. Whit the constant support from their mother and after days of wandering they crossed the border, only to encounter the Swiss guard who told them that they would have to go back. Branko's story is that the leaders pulled the party together, put the children in front with their mothers and the older people behind them and at the back the fit young adults: 'Now shoot us, but we are not going back!' They won that one. Yet again, as Mira cajoled and encouraged her two sons, she showed remarkable strength and determination that would be inspiration for all his life
