Aaron Krone

Aaron Krone’s goal is to create a portrait that includes the personality, emotion and the mood of the person. The emotions range from anger to delight. He wants his image of the face to engage the viewer and give deep insight into the current emotion being expressed. It is his hope that the drawings will suggest stories to the viewer about the people depicted.

With graphite and charcoal, Aaron creates soft shading by using a combination of drawing, brushing and erasing to get subtle effects, particularly in drawings of the human face.

Aaron is influenced by a number of artists including Richard Diebenkorn who said, “Reality has to be digested, it has to be transmuted by paint. It has to be given a twist of some kind.” The portraits of Lucian Freud, an artist who has influenced him, have a sense of reality that can be physically felt and have influenced his images of the human appearance.

Aaron Krone has a B.A. from Friends University, Wichita, Kansas and an MFA from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas. He is an Associate Professor of studio arts at Friends University, Wichita, Kansas where he teaches the compositional design, drawing, painting, and figural classes. He has won regional and international recognition for his artwork.
