Pineapple Parade

Farmers parade bicycles laden with pineapples at a market in the town of Madhupur, northwest of Dhaka. The use of bicycles reduces transportation costs for the farmers, who can carry up to 100 pineapples on each bike. The harvested pineapples are loaded in bicycles and pushed through a forest to the biggest pineapple market in Bangladesh. Pineapple has been cultivated on 8000 hectares of land where 300000 tonnes of pineapple are produced in Tangail, Bangladesh, the largest growing area of the country. According to the Madhupur Agriculture Office, The fruit was cultivated on 8,500 hectares of land last year and on more than 10,500 hectares this year. This fruit cultivation boosts the agroforestry industry in Bangladesh. Information about the carbon sequestration potentiality of different agroforestry species in Bangladesh to combat the pessimistic impact of climate change. Agroforestry is a land-use system receiving wider recognition not only in terms of agricultural sustainability but also in issues related to climate change. The potentiality to sequester carbon by agroforestry species in sub-tropical regions like Bangladesh is promising.
