Chinese Dream , 1981
Unknown

After the reform and opening up, as the focus of work shifted to economic development and modernization, education received renewed attention, and the Constitution mandated universal nine-year compulsory education and introduced a literacy program. When the gaokao resumed in 1977, long gone were the days when students staggered to take the exam, claiming to be the heroes of the anti-intellectual movement. This photograph shows students flocking to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to study. Great changes have taken place in China's education since the reform and opening up. On the one hand, people now give their children's education more thought, and education has become much more popular. On the other side, basic education has become widely accepted. However, the content of education has also started to vary; it is no longer just rote memorization of facts; instead, there is a greater focus on developing students' critical thinking, creative, and practical skills. More prospects for growth and development for people as well as society are brought about by these changes. People also now perceive and respect learning as being important. This image demonstrates people's curiosity. The author claims that this is "one of the most representative photos of China."
