I am interested in what a community centered around helping migrants enter the United States would look like.
In my imagination the site had an array of programming to help people move into the US through labor visas, and act as a halfway point where migrants could safely learn about their new surroundings. The site could be for temporary work or housing, permanent housing, or permanent work. Whatever suited people's needs best. It is also open to the broader community as well as IDP’s (internally displaced persons).
The Community has apartments, residential housing, an adaptive reuse open air market and office space, a community center, a hydroponic center for agriculture, hemp wool insulation manufacturing, transit, and walkways with space for art installations.
The program is divided into phases.
Phase 1: An Apartment Complex, An Adaptive reuse of an industrial building, contained by a dome creating a warmer climate through a simulated biosphere. A Manufacturing site, with co-working offices available to rent.
The goal of this project is to safely invite migrants and IDPs to a safe space in order to build hope for the future.
