TIMUR granting audience on the occasion of his accession in 1370, 1480's

From the Zafarnama of Sultan Husayn Mirza (Fol 83r) held by John Work Garrett Library, John Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA

COMMENTS: The two seated figures are Timur's sons. In the front row five princes are kneeling, each with a different headdress, suggesting different ethnicities. Protocol dictated that approaching the King required bending on the right knee and approaching in a series of bows.
The princes' attendants stand behind them, carrying trays with small bowls filled with gold and jewels.
