The focus of my work examines the African-American figure through light and contrasting shadows. The heavy use of paint is used in a way that becomes sculptural. The mixed-use of texture is immersive and palpable, visually engulfing the viewer. The compositions are unapologetically bold and assertive, challenging the viewer's perceptions of Black leisure, yet each is subtlety awash in a refreshingly unprovoked levity and lightness. Delighting in the simplicity of just being.

The goal of my practice is to engage with the community and represent the lives of everyday people. My experience with them allows me to make decisions that best reflect who they are. Their natural presence and stature convey a sense of relaxation, empowerment, and confidence; each one challenging the stereotypically restrictive, monolithic narrative of what Black folks do in their spare time.
