My work is done slowly, process is very important to me. In my work I am investigating how the knit or woven structure can translate from paper to textile form. While planning is essential to my practice, there is also an element of further interrogation of structure once the project is on the loom or once I begin the knitting process. Further, as one project is in progress, the attempts of new stitches / techniques lead to next ideas, it's a constant conversation between structure, figure, and color. My work attempts to utilize the figure / the suggestion of the figure / the silhouette to convey emotion. Starting from figure drawing and sketching, I work to develop a more technical draft. That draft is then my map for the project, guiding me through the scrutiny of structure.
