Story of The Self

Understanding the concept of The Self comes from understanding how family, culture, storytelling, and the context of life experiences shape the story that we tell about ourselves.

Throughout life, the pages of our own book, our own story, are folded, cut, and shaped into something uniquely representative of the person we are. Eventually the pages take the shape of The Self, in any form. Something that represents who we are, where we come from, and what we live for.

Literature and education are some of the most important and influential aspects of life that shape our view of the world we live in. But it is important to understand that shaping our view also shapes who we are as a person.

In order to truly define ourselves we must look outward, to others and their lived experiences.
From stories within a family to stories of the land we live on or the places we call home, every aspect of our lives has some impact on our own personal story. It is these experiences, of our own and outside, that shape the pages of the stories of our lives.

The book, or story, of The Self is a visual representation of lived experiences, of connections, and of life itself.

In my story, I am greatly shaped by the place I live and the experiences and views that come from my culture. As life goes on, this story will continue to be affected by new experiences, new stories, and new connections that will reshape my story of The Self again.
