Moving Images

Website: https://ninalokyeeliu.com/home
Nina Liu is a Hong Kong born interdisciplinary artist, who is based in Chicago and Toronto. Her main practice lies in photography and moving images. Nina’s love for storytelling was what gravitated her towards performing arts at a young age. She is particularly intrigued by the physical and psychological impact that a performance is able to have on the audience, within a span of an hour, or simply within a split second. To her, the camera is an extension to a performance; it is able to completely control the way that something is perceived. Drawing influences from theatre and cinema, she creates narratives–both fictional and documentational–with the help of makeup, clothing, body language and facial expressions. Through photography and moving images, she explores her relationship with the camera by being both behind and in front of it.
