Pier Maurizio Greco was born in Modena, lives and works in Rome. He graduated in History of Contemporary Art at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", with a thesis on Mario Schifano, the result of personal meetings with the artist in his Roman studio, and obtained a teaching qualification (class 61A - History of Art) in the 1999/2000 teaching competition.
Since the end of the 1980s he has used photography as a tool for investigation and research, starting from material textures and details of random objects. A few years later he began to paint, took painting courses, and investigated the expressive possibilities of acrylic painting, a technique that still constitutes his pictorial practice of choice. The first works on canvas are characterized by a strong abstract matrix, attributable to an informal tone and sign, in which ethnic suggestions and references to symbolic images sometimes emerge. Gradually, a synthetic process takes shape over time, a condition in which the pictorial surface constitutes the territory of contiguity between objective reality and abstraction.
He has exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad

Pier Maurizio Greco's latest works, acrylics on canvas of various sizes, insist on the theme of places, physical and mental.
They are "photographic" images, windows oriented towards expanses of water, with glimpses of crashing waves, expanses and territories interrupted by traces and shadows of human constructions, or landscape elements.
The color extends and proceeds, almost scratched, erased, abraded. Because it is also through the "way of removal" that Pier Maurizio intervenes, leaving only what is necessary, only what stimulates memory, reaching the margin, the intriguing border that separates reality from nothingness, from the figurative to the pure abstract, the crest, in fact, the razor's edge.
The surface appears like this, stretched out and layered, like a thought, like a flowing flow, made up of places seen or imagined, traveled and photographed.
And it is not surprising, because for over thirty years, first and then alongside painting, an intense photographic activity has coexisted in Greco, a voracious assimilation of places and people, which over time has produced a vast visual sampling, and finally overlapped with the course of study and the concrete and practical exercise of art.
