Kealia is a windy beach
On the east side of Kauai
Where the surf is always
Cresting
In a breeze
And the waves
Are always
Just a bit wild
Half the sand’s
Been drawn
Away by the
Pounding surf
that reaches out
And pulls it under
Like a croc
Will roll his catch
The beach has such a slant
That you can roll
Straight away
Into the water

I used to ride Whitehoof
Bareback all the way from
Kapahi where Valley House
Still stood proud
From Captain James McKee
And Colonel Zephaniah Spalding
There were even remnants of
The porcelain plates
Wilhelmina would delicately
Paint when wheeled down
By the firsts waterfall
With her parasol to
Protect her delicate
Freckles

Whitehoof had never
Seen a wave before
And reared up to the sound
of the crashing water

But soon I had him
Still breathing hard
But walking gingerly
Along the edge of the
Waterline and soon
He was running
Running on the
wet packed sand
As the waves
cooled his legs
And eventually
Loved to
go down
With me to
Kealia Beach
For the
sunrise
