My Name is Robert Gagnon. I'm just a regular person who happens to find solace and joy in making art. My journey has been a winding road, but it's one that I wouldn't trade for anything.
I first dipped my toes into the world of art back in my early twenties. I have worked with a number of mediums. Carving with Soapstone, Alabaster and wood were my first, followed by pencil drawings and watercolour. When I first picked up an Airbrush I felt I had found my medium of choice, although I still go outside my comfort zone to challenge myself. I found a certain kind of freedom in expressing myself through art. Wildlife, with its untamed beauty, is my true love and I began to transfer the wonders of nature onto my canvases.
However, as life tends to do, it took me on a different path in my late forties. Responsibilities and the needs of my family took center stage, and my canvas and paints found themselves tucked away for a while. It was a hiatus that lasted quite a few years, but I wouldn't change a thing. Family is everything, after all.
Fast forward to two years ago when I found myself close to retirement, I decided to reignite the passion that had been smoldering within me. Returning to painting after such a long break felt like reconnecting with an old friend – familiar yet refreshing.
Now, at 64 years old, I'm happily immersed in my art once more. Wildlife remains my muse, and each painting is a testament to the appreciation I have for the world around me. I may not have any formal art training, but I paint from the heart, and that's what matters most to me.
Through the ups and downs of life, one thing has remained constant – my love for making art. It's a journey that continues to unfold with every canvas and challenging myself to try new things, and I'm excited to see where the colors take me next.
