Butterfly Brooch , 2016
5 x 5.3 in (h x w)

Pageant of the Masters re-creation of “Butterfly Brooch” by Gaston Lafitte for the 2016 production, “Partners.”

Each summer, approximately 50 gallons of body make up are used to transform the Pageant's volunteer cast members into works of art. Up until the 1990s, a special, custom made makeup formula was created exclusively for the Pageant. Since then, it has shifted to over the counter theatrical makeup. Most makeup used is water based except for the metallic colors that are mineral oil based. A group of approximately 20 to 25 volunteers apply the makeup to the volunteer cast members each night.
