Courir pour se nourrir / Running for food? , 2020

Wednesday 6 September 2073, 18 110 km.

It's D-Day for Xavier, who spent the last 8 years accumulating kilometers on his speedometer. With all this distance added-up, he's looking forward to trying those new fancy exotics dishes, from Poke Bowls to quinoa salads, praised for their exoticness and their nutritional values which are meant to knock out of the park our local parsnips and cabbages.

In this video, we witness a dystopian society where the currency is no longer euros, but the distance accumulated by the ingredient, with a genuine physical cost. Ultimately, we want to reflect that a product bought in our corner shop does not reflect the externalities that it implies. We tend to import vegetables from the other side of the world, without taking into account the distance travelled nor the impact on our local economy and farmers.

Would we consume differently if we were to live in such a society ? Nowadays when we consume, do we know the externalities behind a product or do we decide to ignore them ?
