Introducing the Idiotisch Wagen GTI - Salon de l'automobile Geneva 2020

Our sculpture is designed to question modern mobility at various levels by deviating our representation of cars, human bodies and the relation between the two. Firstly, we try to question the usefulness of cars by embodying them in the flesh of a sedentary overweight torso. This critic comes in the context of revolutionizing mobilities and a rush back to simpler and healthier means of transport, like bikes or walks. Then, the setup of the piece highlights the pointless admiration society has on individual vehicles by deviating an automobile show into a place of crooked contemplation. The humanization of the vehicle criticizes our social representation of cars and their association to a happy and successful lifestyle.
We decided to put the emphasis on the human body aspect to insist on the irony of our society’s fascination for a piece of property that jeopardizes our environment and our health. However, the critics don’t focus on environmental and sanitary impact directly but more on the relation we have with individual mobility, which in the end fuels the consequences of car consumption.
