Persuasion , 2020

A student from ESCP is surfing Facebook to keep up with the latest news. Yesterday, she shared an article from ESCP she found while browsing the web. Be ready to embark in a short video of her journey where she discovers the ESCP Linkedin account.

It is commonly believed and perceived that information over the Internet is relatively unreliable while at the same time it ironically gets more and more believers every day at every instant. Social networks such as Facebook are the perfect example to illustrate how we can easily face an overwhelming amount of news and articles online. We have investigated the variation of the persuasive power of false rumors and we strained the bounds of credulity of the ESCP students. Through our artistic performance, you will witness the persuasive power of the news we have spread in less than 24 hours and how people participated in the virality of our project. We realized that the reliability of the news is regarded higher when using a professional account such as Linkedin. Undeniably, the institutional structure of ESCP helped us to fool the students.

We want to raise awareness regarding the reliability of the information online and invite the students to develop a critical thinking spirit. Pablo Reyes once said “believe half of what you see and nothing you read online.”

To discuss with the artists, connect on Google Hangouts (the link is available at the entrance of the exhibition).

Thank you!
