Sweet Oblivion , 2020

Traditionally, humans worked tirelessly to produce and
consume food with the aim of nourishment. In today's world rat
race towards wealth, we see a complete negligence towards
our consumption and health. Exploiting this mindset, big
profit-driven corporations produce the most addictive food at
the lowest cost possible by using massive amounts of sugar,
salt or other harmful additives.
Sugar, the dominant ingredient of ultra-processed food has
been the primary focus of our artwork. What a better way to
depict this bitter-sweet supremacy than the very convenient
and widespread vending machines? Sweet Oblivion is an
installation that deviates an ESCP Berlin campus’ vending
machine by: Implanting a tablet symbolizing a fattening mirror,
thus visually stressing the effect of these dangerous
consumption habits; Fixing sugar cubes on the ordering
keypad to unravel that, despite what we order, the result is the
same: sugar.
Do we really have a choice?
