A Milwaukee Road operator works at his desk inside the North Milwaukee Tower, where the Beer Line began. He oversaw train movements through the complex junction of lines going in four directions. The schematic diagram on the right shows the tracks under his jurisdiction. The electronic switches below controlled track switches and signals on the railroad; with the telephone he could communicate directly with yardmasters as well as the dispatcher. Abbey-01-146-04
