Looking south from Humboldt Yard, the Pabst brewing complex can be discerned in the distance. In the 1950s, forty-foot insulated boxcars carried finished kegs and bottles of beer to retailers. Near the yard, across the river to the left, stands the historic Wolski’s Tavern. Built by Schlitz Brewery in the early twentieth century, Wolski’s helped establish the concept of the “corner bar.” Schlitz, along with many other major breweries, built corner bars to sell their beer to local residents.
