Milwaukee Road switch crews worked around the clock to service the line’s three biggest breweries: Schlitz, Pabst, and Blatz. During the 1950s and early 1960s, the railroad’s switch crews pulled approximately fifty cars daily of finished beer from these three. In addition to servicing other businesses along the Beer Line, workers loaded cars nightly at Humboldt Yard and transferred them down to the larger yards in the Menomonee River Valley. From there, the cars joined freight trains going all over the country. Abbey-01-148-07
