"Now is an auspicious month in the early spring,
with fine weather and gently flowing breezes.

White plum blossoms bloom, like the ‘oshiroi’ powder make-up symbolizing the beauty in front of a mirror.

The garden is filled with the fragrance of orchids like a sachet."

In 2019, Japan celebrated a new imperial era called Reiwa (Beautiful Harmony) created from this verse. Announcing the name of the new era, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga became known as “Uncle Reiwa.”
