John comes from a landscape architecture background, but in 1997, he used his fascination with historical ships as an opportunity. An old trunk of his great-grandfather’s navy mementos from the Spanish-American war inspired him to make his own version of historical ships, and he never looked back. Soon he took scrap wood, computer parts, and other discarded materials and fashioned unique ships that were based on actual Civil War-era riverboats, WWI battleships, and 19th century passenger steamers. His artwork has been exhibited in museums around the country, and collected by individuals and corporations.
